How to Apply for Financial Aid
We at UMMC recognize the importance of a quality education. The UMMC Office of Student Financial Services is dedicated to providing a way for you to achieve your higher education goals. Help us to help you by following these simple steps in applying for aid. You should complete the required forms as early as possible to ensure that you receive the maximum amount of aid for which you are eligible.
Apply for a Federal Student Aid ID
Complete the FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available beginning October 1 online at www.studentaid.gov. The prior-prior tax return and income information are used to complete the FAFSA. Follow the instructions on the FAFSA form and review your answers. Please add UMMC SCHOOL CODE: 004688 to the FAFSA to ensure that we receive your information electronically. You may check the status of your application by logging back into studentaid.gov or calling 1-800-433-3243. Please note that it takes 14-21 business days for the FAFSA to be sent to UMMC after processing. Upon UMMC receiving your FAFSA, you will be evaluated and offered aid.

Loan Entrance Counseling
Entrance counseling ensures you understand your loan's terms and conditions and rights and responsibilities. You'll learn what a loan is, how interest works, your options for repayment, and how to avoid delinquency and default.
When you are finished, a record of your completion will be sent to the school(s) you selected, and you can then receive your loan money.

Verification
Thirty percent of all aid applicants are selected for verification by the U.S Department of Education and verified by our office through review of tax documents. This is to ensure that your FAFSA was completed correctly. Your SAR will tell you if you have been selected. We will send a request for copies of student's (parent/spouse, if applicable) tax transcript and a Verification Worksheet. Provide requested documents as soon as possible. If not provided within 60 days of the request, your file will be marked inactive and no award will be made.
Our office will make corrections to your SAR, if necessary, as a result of verification. You will be notified by the Federal Processor and/or our office either with a corrected SAR or a revised Award Letter. This process will result in a 2-3 week delay. A FAFSA that is completed correctly will not require corrections.
Non-tax filers
If you stated that you WILL NOT FILE or were NOT REQUIRED TO FILE a federal income tax return on your FAFSA. We are required to collect additional information to confirm that you indeed did NOT file a federal income tax return for the corresponding tax year or were not required to file. Please submit to our office an official IRS Verification ofNon-filing Letter from the IRS, as well as the Non-Tax Filers Verification Worksheet provided by the UMMC Student Financial Services Office. You can request the 4506-T form directly from the IRS. You can obtain this notice at www.irs.gov or by calling the IRS at 800-908-9946.
If you do not complete the verification process, you forfeit federal student aid eligibility, including student loans. We strongly recommend you submit all documents within 14 days of receipt of the verification notice.
All Verification forms can be found at Student Financial Services Forms - Intranet of University of Mississippi Medical Center by navigating to Education > Academic Affairs > Student Financial Services > Forms.
